Convoy of Hope

Faith-Based Humanitarian Organization

Founded in 1994, Convoy of Hope is a faith-based humanitarian organization dedicated to serving people facing hunger, poverty, and crisis. Its mission centers on providing practical help that meets immediate needs while also supporting long-term solutions. The organization carries out its work through disaster response, children’s feeding initiatives, community outreach, and partnerships with churches, businesses, civic organizations, and government agencies. These collaborations help extend support to communities in ways that respect local leadership and resources.

Disaster Response and Recovery

When natural or humanitarian disasters occur, the organization responds with urgency and care. Relief efforts focus on delivering essential supplies, including food, clean drinking water, hygiene items, and other necessities. These responses are designed to address urgent needs during emergencies. When possible, assistance continues beyond the initial phase to support recovery efforts, recognizing that rebuilding lives and communities often takes time and steady support.

Addressing Hunger and Food Security

Fighting hunger is a core part of the organization’s work. Children’s feeding programs provide reliable meals to students in vulnerable areas, helping improve nutrition and support school attendance. In addition to feeding initiatives, agricultural programs offer training in practical and sustainable farming methods. These programs help individuals increase food production, manage resources responsibly, and strengthen household income. By focusing on food security, the organization aims to reduce long-term dependence on aid and promote greater self-reliance.

Empowering Women and Girls

The organization places strong emphasis on supporting women and girls as key contributors to family and community well-being. Through the Women’s Empowerment program, women are partnered with as they start small businesses and work to support their families. Training includes nutrition, health, hygiene, literacy, cooking, agriculture, and early childhood development, with added support for expectant mothers. The Girls’ Empowerment program complements this work by focusing on education related to self-esteem, positive decision-making, nutrition, and physical and emotional health, helping girls plan for their futures with confidence.

Operational Support and Stewardship

Convoy of Hope operates through a combination of donated goods, financial contributions, and volunteer service. This model allows resources to be used efficiently while maintaining accountability and transparency. Careful stewardship guides decision-making at every level, ensuring that support reaches communities in need while honoring the trust of donors and partners.

Measured Impact and Recognition

Today, Convoy of Hope feeds more than 639,000 children worldwide every school day. It has supported over 252,000 women and girls and provided agricultural training to more than 140,000 individuals. Since its founding, the organization has responded to more than 850 disasters across the United States and internationally. Its commitment to responsible management and effectiveness has earned recognition, including a ranking of number 27 on Forbes’ list of America’s Top 100 Charities.

Foundational Story

The organization was founded by Hal Donaldson, whose life experiences shaped his commitment to service. After his father died in a car accident in 1969, the help his family received from neighbors left a lasting impression. Years later, inspired by a meeting with Mother Teresa and relationships with missionaries Mark and Huldah Buntain, Hal and a small group of family members and friends launched the organization. Early outreach events known as Care Days marked the beginning of its work.

Continuing the Mission

Over the years, expanded infrastructure and partnerships have allowed Convoy of Hope to grow into a global organization. Today, it serves communities in more than 130 countries and has reached over 350 million people. Its work continues with a clear focus on humility, consistency, and meeting real needs through compassionate service.
